Terms of use
Short version: GCarve, GBurn, GSketch and Phosphor are free to use as they are. They drive real machines and real lights, so check your work before you run it. What you make is yours. Don't abuse the service.
These terms cover all four apps (in the browser and on the desktop), your G Workshop account and the websites gworkshop.app, gcarve.app, gburn.app, gsketch.app and phosphorfx.com. "We" means G Workshop, the small shop that makes them.
One account
- One free account signs you in to every app. Use a real email address you can confirm; one account per person. You must be at least 13 years old (16 in the European Union).
- Keep your password, passkeys and two-step codes to yourself. You're responsible for what happens on your account.
- We may suspend accounts that abuse the service: spam, attacks, scraping, uploading malware or content you don't have the right to use.
- The desktop apps work without an account. Signing in adds cloud projects, your own bit and machine libraries and sharing.
Machines, lasers and lights: your responsibility
The apps make files and send commands that move cutting machines, fire lasers and drive projectors and lights. A wrong setting can break tools, damage machines or material, start a fire or hurt someone. The apps check for common problems, but those checks can't catch everything and depend on the settings you enter. You are responsible for checking every job and for operating your equipment safely.
GCarve (CNC routers)
- Check every file before you cut: look at the simulation, read the safety findings and run an air cut (File › Export Air-Cut Test) on anything new.
- Make sure the post-processor, units and zero point match your machine and controller.
- Feeds, speeds and chip loads from the bit and machine databases are starting points from the makers' published data, not guarantees.
- Follow your machine maker's safety instructions, wear eye and ear protection, never leave a running machine alone and keep a hand near the stop.
GBurn (lasers)
- Lasers can blind, burn and start fires. Wear eye protection rated for your laser's wavelength, never leave a running laser alone, and keep a fire extinguisher at hand.
- Only burn materials that are safe to laser (no PVC or other chlorine plastics), and vent the fumes outside.
- Check power, speed, focus and the frame before every job; test settings on scrap first.
GSketch (3D models)
- Models and sizes you send on to GCarve or anywhere else are only as right as what you drew: measure twice before you cut.
Phosphor (live visuals)
- Phosphor can produce strobing and fast-changing light. Flashing images can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Warn your audience where appropriate, follow the venue's rules and local guidelines, and keep strobe effects within safe limits.
- Rig projectors, screens and cables safely, and test your show before it matters.
What you make is yours
Your drawings, models, projects and shows are yours. When you save to your account or share bits and machines, we store them only to run the service for you (see Privacy). Delete them, or your whole account, any time.
Only use artwork, fonts, media, music and footage you have the right to use. You're responsible for what you cut, burn, project, stream or record.
Community projects
When you share a project to the GCarve community projects (gcarve.app/projects), you confirm you have the right to share it and you publish it under the license you pick (CC BY, CC BY-NC or CC0); others may then download, change and cut it under that license. Shared projects are checked before they appear, and we may remove any that break these terms. You can delete your own shared projects any time. Projects shared by others come with no promise that they are safe or correct for your machine.
Paid plans
Using the apps is free. Pro adds more cloud space and sharing across every app; its price and what it includes are shown before you pay, and payments run through Stripe. You can cancel any time and keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for. If Pro ends, your stored projects stay downloadable for at least 30 days. Donations are gifts and are not refunded.
No warranty
The apps and the service are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, including fitness for a particular purpose. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for damage to machines, tools, material, property or people, fires, a show that stops, lost work or lost profits arising from using the apps or the files and commands they make. Where liability can't be excluded, it's limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
Changes
The apps change often. We may change features, limits or these terms; important changes to these terms are announced on these sites or by email to account holders.
